RP - Interview of Garion Avarr

Post by Lunarisse Aspenstar on Mon Apr 18, 2016 4:08 pm

Location: SFRIM Offices. Bar. Nahyeen VII, Zoar & Sons Factory
Setting: The main gathering area of the Society, the bar sports plush leather couches centered around a long coffee table. Low music plays songs from around the galaxy. The soft blue lighting is easy on the eyes, but still light enough to see what you're doing and where you're going. The shelves are filled haphazardly with bottles of spirits, clearly labeled. The whiskeys shelf label has been taped over by Lucas. There is a shelf with rum on it, with a fresh label reading 'Alexi'. Above that, is Nicoletta's shelf, with juice mixes and exotic wine, with a few bottles of absinthe here and there. A long line of bottles of Quafe are on a shelf with a "DON'T TOUCH!" sign by Rhoxy. Johanes has a shelf with brandies and cognac and a lone bottle of smurgleblaster. One shelf labeled "Lord Anderson's" has three bottles of brandy from Gallente space, along with other liquors. Lunarisse's shelf has spiced wine and other vintages from around New Eden, with a few religious texts leaning against the bottles. New to her collection is one tall, elegant bottle with amarrian scrollwork of Cream Liqueur, one tall elegant bottle with amarrian scrollwork of Chocolate Liqueur, one stout, wide bottle with amarrian scroll work of Chocolate sauce with added black tea all wrapped in a secure richly coloured, dark wood box. A shelf labeled "Alizabeth" has several boxes of teas. There are a few other shelves that hold overflow and shared drinks for all. A well stocked refrigerator is behind the bar and equipmebnt to brew teas and coffees are behind the bar.
On the walls are starscapes with Society members, painted by Lord Anderson.
Against one wall is a majestic golden Tash-Murkon Grandmother Clock, secured so it does not tip.
There is Sarum Shepard named " Quark"
Exits: Gottin's Lamp - Kitchen, Gottin's Lamp - Sleeping Area, Gottin's Lamp - Library, and Gottin's Lamp
[ 2016.04.05 01:45:37 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote enters. She takes a seat in her usual chair. she is back to her usual appearance, black dress and hair down. She is sipping tea.
[ 2016.04.05 01:47:57 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote sips her tea. She glances at her dataoad.
[ 2016.04.05 01:50:00 ] Garion Avarr > /emote enters, clad in a dark robe. He offers a bow to the Directrix. "Directrix. I regret that our schedules have not coincidened before now."
[ 2016.04.05 01:50:39 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "It is fine." She rises and curtseys. "I am sure you've had a lot to do to settle in."
[ 2016.04.05 01:50:54 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "Have a seat please? And can I get you a drink? We have no servants back here. Just us."
[ 2016.04.05 01:54:45 ] Garion Avarr > /emote sits. "Some tea, I think. In . . . the Jin-Mei style, I think. If you have a good one."
[ 2016.04.05 01:55:20 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "I'll see what we have. I do know we have mostly Amarr and Caldari teas" She smiles wryly "You may wish to stock a shelf"
[ 2016.04.05 01:57:15 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote ducks behind the bar and rummages, "I admit I usually do the interview first, but you came highly recommended.. and we needed you for the op"
[ 2016.04.05 01:57:37 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "How do you seem to know Ms. Starfall and Ms. Jenneth and Emerita Mithra?"
[ 2016.04.05 01:58:32 ] Garion Avarr > /emote smiles. "I shall look forward to that. And I certainly enjoy both Amarrian and Achurian teas, as well. Just . . . a particular style of nostolical at the moment."
[ 2016.04.05 01:59:08 ] Aria Jenneth > /emote pads into the Lamp, and with her pads a long, lean package of long-haired pseudo-canine menace that (fortunately) seems mostly deem the world to be beneath his notice*
[ 2016.04.05 01:59:27 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote looks at the shelves with a slight frown. she nods, letting Garion catch up with her questions.
[ 2016.04.05 01:59:59 ] Garion Avarr > Well . . . do you want the longer versions of how I know them, or the shorter versions?
[ 2016.04.05 02:00:13 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote mutters "Well no.. Jin-mei tea. I'll brew an Achuran variety" she muses. Then a little louder "I think short version is fine for now"
[ 2016.04.05 02:00:44 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "Hello Aria" she adds lightly "want some tea as well?"
[ 2016.04.05 02:01:43 ] Aria Jenneth > *Meogoleh is a long, lean whip of slaver hound, his sparse fur long and striped in white and brown. He regards first Garion, then Luna with red-amber-eyed disinterest, then looks at Aria, who gives a hand singnal. He lopes over to a corner and lies down
[ 2016.04.05 02:02:04 ] Aria Jenneth > ... Um. If I won't be disturbing, you, Directrix ...
[ 2016.04.05 02:02:46 ] Aria Jenneth > *the juvenile hound's shoulder height was about level with Aria's ribs*
[ 2016.04.05 02:02:59 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "Not at all." She glances at Garion, curious as to how they knew each other.
[ 2016.04.05 02:03:00 ] Aria Jenneth > ... hello, milord.
[ 2016.04.05 02:04:49 ] Garion Avarr > /emote smiles. "Hello, ah," he falters for a moment before closing his eyes and taking a short breath, then saying in a deliberate but shaking tone, "Aria."
[ 2016.04.05 02:05:45 ] Aria Jenneth > *quietly, one eyebrow lifting (in a concerned sort of way)* You've been ... calling me that today. Are you ... sure?
[ 2016.04.05 02:08:32 ] Garion Avarr > /emote swallows and doesn't look quite at her, but off to the side. "It's your name. It would be unfair of me to call you anything else because of . . . because of a problem I have."
[ 2016.04.05 02:09:46 ] Aria Jenneth > . . . well ... it's this identity's name. Whether it's "mine" is ... maybe a little bit of an open question.
[ 2016.04.05 02:10:34 ] Aria Jenneth > I've accepted it. I don't really ... object ... if people want to use the other one, though. I did choose it, even if ... I don't really go by it, day to day.
[ 2016.04.05 02:13:02 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote looks at the pair. She has returned from behind the bar with the two tea cups.
[ 2016.04.05 02:13:34 ] Aria Jenneth > Oh! ... thank you, Directrix.
[ 2016.04.05 02:14:13 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote gives the cups to the pair "Besides, Garion..' she says softly "I prefer we be more informal in here. You can call me lunarisse in the Lamp"
[ 2016.04.05 02:14:14 ] Garion Avarr > /emote looks her square in the eyes. "But is it the name you choose to be known by in everyday life? Yes, perhaps you were given this idenity. That does not make the name less yours if you choose to use it."
[ 2016.04.05 02:14:53 ] Garion Avarr > I will respect your decision. I owe you -- and her, and myself -- no less.
[ 2016.04.05 02:16:02 ] Garion Avarr > The fact that you remind me of her should not invalidate your choices. And I want them to be /your/ choices, not choices made to please me.
[ 2016.04.05 02:17:03 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote takes a seat listening to the exchange.
[ 2016.04.05 02:17:50 ] Aria Jenneth > ... well ... only one of those choices was to take the nickname, "Vesper," my lord.
[ 2016.04.05 02:18:24 ] Aria Jenneth > ... and maybe I really would have changed ... my name at that time, only the CONCORD ... registration rules are a little stubborn.
[ 2016.04.05 02:19:25 ] Aria Jenneth > ... and ... over time ... I've come to think maybe we aren't really very different at all.
[ 2016.04.05 02:22:45 ] Aria Jenneth > ... so ... I guess ... maybe I do prefer to be called "Aria." ... I don't think it's fair of me ... to ask you to call me that, though.
[ 2016.04.05 02:24:10 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote sips her own tea. She is finding this insightful even if not the interview!
[ 2016.04.05 02:25:21 ] Garion Avarr > If it isn't fair of you to ask me to call you that, then why is it fair of my to insist on calling you something different?
[ 2016.04.05 02:28:16 ] Aria Jenneth > ... because I gave you the option. And at least two ... others do actually exercise it.
[ 2016.04.05 02:32:26 ] Garion Avarr > That's fair, then. But if Aria is what you prefer, Aria is what I shall try to use, even if . . . well, even if memories of her make it hard sometimes. But . . . well, I hope that, with time, it will be less painful, and will simply be a fond reminder
[ 2016.04.05 02:33:12 ] Garion Avarr > of a friend I once had, mixed with fond memories of a new friend I now have.
[ 2016.04.05 02:33:18 ] Garion Avarr > /emote he smiles.
[ 2016.04.05 02:34:25 ] Aria Jenneth > ... well ... if that's ... something you're sure of ...
[ 2016.04.05 02:35:49 ] Garion Avarr > I am.
[ 2016.04.05 02:36:17 ] Aria Jenneth > ... okay.
[ 2016.04.05 02:36:25 ] Aria Jenneth > *she sips her tea*
[ 2016.04.05 02:37:11 ] Aria Jenneth > ... I ... am sorry for the interruption, Directrix.
[ 2016.04.05 02:38:00 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "Not at all" she smiles.
[ 2016.04.05 02:38:12 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote looks at Garion "Frankly.. it puts me at ease.. on some things."
[ 2016.04.05 02:38:52 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "I really only have three questions to ask.. and that is because.. besides being capsuleers, we have a mission to serve the Faith and the Empire and I like to know.. member's views"
[ 2016.04.05 02:39:11 ] Garion Avarr > /emote suddenly remembers the reason he is here. "Ah, Directrix, er, Lunarisse -- my apologies, both for forgetting you and for the fact that I am not very good at informal address -- that may or may not raise more questions than it answers.
[ 2016.04.05 02:39:56 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote gives a wry chuckle "It's hard to do for some. Do what you feel most comfortable with. That is the point of this space. To have a space we can be at ease."
[ 2016.04.05 02:40:22 ] Garion Avarr > /emote nods.
[ 2016.04.05 02:41:29 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "Tell me...what is the essense of the Amarr faith to you? I'll give you a hint to relax you. There's no.. right answer i think."
[ 2016.04.05 02:41:43 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote smiles and sips her tea, glancing at him over her cup.
[ 2016.04.05 02:42:37 ] Garion Avarr > /emote sips his tea, and leans back, considering.
[ 2016.04.05 02:47:47 ] Aria Jenneth > *curls up with her tea, listening quietly*
[ 2016.04.05 02:53:40 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote continues her gaze, sipping her tea placidly.
[ 2016.04.05 02:54:44 ] Garion Avarr > /emote after looks up after a long silence. "Now, many answers to this question might be given. The Reclaimer might say that it is to bring the Faith to others, by sword or otherwise, that they might be saved. And that is not wrong.
[ 2016.04.05 02:56:36 ] Aria Jenneth > *she quietly whistles the Afghan Hound-like slaver over, then gestures for him to lie down. He remains curled up on the floor, his hunched spine just within Aria's limited scritchie-bestowing range, which appears to have been the idea*
[ 2016.04.05 02:56:40 ] Garion Avarr > The Monk might say it is to perfect one's own self, or more broadly, one's community, in the eyes of God. And that is not wrong.
[ 2016.04.05 02:57:55 ] Garion Avarr > The Scholar might say that it is to study and to understand God's great works and God's word as best one is able, and that is not wrong.
[ 2016.04.05 02:58:03 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote nods slightly, not interrupting.
[ 2016.04.05 02:59:01 ] Garion Avarr > The Poet might say that it is to sing forth God's praises to the highest heavens with all the art one possesses. And that is not wrong.
[ 2016.04.05 03:00:01 ] Aria Jenneth > /emote sips her tea, and scritches Meogoleh's spine. Meogoleh burbles, a noise like a cross between a swamp and a contented Harley Davidson, only marginally quieter*
[ 2016.04.05 03:01:37 ] Garion Avarr > Yet none of these are right, either, for they are not complete: the core of the Amarr faith, I would say, is to live as God's instriment in the world: a task that requires perfect one's self and much study, and that leads naturally to the singing of
[ 2016.04.05 03:02:49 ] Garion Avarr > praises and of the saving of others . . . whether it is directly through the bringing of them to the faith or not.
[ 2016.04.05 03:03:42 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote nods with approval taking it all in.
[ 2016.04.05 03:05:35 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "I think.. you will find our mission congenial then." She lowers her cup. "Tell me, Garion, in light of all that.. how do the True Amarr fit in all this. Is it simply enough to be true amarr, or is it more important to pursue God's purposes -c-
[ 2016.04.05 03:05:47 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > in accordance with your talents, vocations, and the Scriptures?
[ 2016.04.05 03:11:09 ] Garion Avarr > /emote smiles wryly. "Rather the latter. I've seen . . . quite a number of True Amarr who have committed great crimes against both the Faith and humanity. And . . . I am reminded of the wonders a Gallente woman acomplished every time I
[ 2016.04.05 03:11:40 ] Garion Avarr > am flying my ship and Aura notifies me of something.
[ 2016.04.05 03:12:08 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote tilts her head slightly "if I can ask.. who was she?"
[ 2016.04.05 03:12:55 ] Garion Avarr > /emote smiles. "It is not for nothing I fly a Myrmadon named Excena Foer."
[ 2016.04.05 03:13:31 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "Would I be prying if I asked why she is so memorable to you?"
[ 2016.04.05 03:18:17 ] Garion Avarr > Not prying, no. Partially I simply enjoyed Barak's work, and I suppose my initial interest in Gallante culture developed after I learned about his relationship with her, after which I eventually learned Gallante so I could read The Book of Hours
[ 2016.04.05 03:18:34 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote nods.
[ 2016.04.05 03:20:35 ] Garion Avarr > Studying Gallante culture, I was struck by have our cultures are so simultamiously different and similar, and later, when I became a capsuleer, much of my studies focused on drones, so I ended up learning a bit more about the Gallante
[ 2016.04.05 03:20:42 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "That is a useful set of knowledge."
[ 2016.04.05 03:20:45 ] Aria Jenneth > *listens quietly*
[ 2016.04.05 03:21:42 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "You will not hear me disparage the pursuit of knowledge. I think it information is strength. That's why we have.. the Library our former librarian Lyn Farel built"
[ 2016.04.05 03:22:29 ] Garion Avarr > and learning to fly their ships, and I suppose the name seemed approprate for a Gallente battlecruiser flown by an Amarrian. And then of course I suppose I later felt some personal parralls, but that would be prying.
[ 2016.04.05 03:22:41 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote indicates with her head to Gottin's Lamp - Library . Then she nods as Garion continues.
[ 2016.04.05 03:26:17 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "What did you think of the Empress's, bless her Name, edict concerning the Matari slaves?"
[ 2016.04.05 03:31:37 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "Specifically.. the Ninth generation"
[ 2016.04.05 03:39:32 ] Garion Avarr > I think it was probably needed. While I cannot be sure if it will ultimately result in god for the Empire or the Faith -- and none of can ever be sure if anything can -- I think it is likely it will.
[ 2016.04.05 03:40:28 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote nods. "Do you feel slavery still has a role in today's Empire and if so.. how should slaves be treated?"
[ 2016.04.05 03:41:13 ] Aria Jenneth > *pauses in the bestowal of scritchies, listening*
[ 2016.04.05 03:41:53 ] Garion Avarr > /emote sighs. "From a realpolitik standpoint, slavery has to end. It hold the Empire back economically, and hinders both Empire and Faith politically. Obviously, of course, it is impossible to end slavery on any sort of timeframe of less than
[ 2016.04.05 03:43:18 ] Garion Avarr > a generation or so, for both internal political and cultural reasons, as well as the humanitarian crisis it would cause for slaves freed without some sort of support structure in place."
[ 2016.04.05 03:44:33 ] Garion Avarr > But there is no question in my mind that, while slavery was a very effective tool to aid the faith in the past -- if often misused for temporal benefits -- it does little but hinder it now."
[ 2016.04.05 03:45:10 ] Aria Jenneth > *doesn't literally burst into applause*
[ 2016.04.05 03:45:16 ] Aria Jenneth > *she does look like she wants to*
[ 2016.04.05 03:45:25 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote sips her tea. She is doing an internal calculus in her head. She nods without comment.
[ 2016.04.05 03:46:31 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > "I appreciate your answers, i think.. your mind set fits the Society well." She looks at Garion. "Give thepast week as a trial period of sorts.. do you have any questions of me? Do you still wish to stay with us?"
[ 2016.04.05 03:51:01 ] Garion Avarr > /emote nods solmnly. "I do. I have found . . ." he glances at Aria, "a friend who reminds me of an old friend, the first I had, I have also found one whom I have been proud to call daughter and an old intellectual companion and friend."
[ 2016.04.05 03:51:39 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote smiles. "Wonderful. I welcome you to the Society and I hope your stay is a Blessed one.
[ 2016.04.05 03:52:06 ] Garion Avarr > /emote smiles. "Beyond that . . . I have found a corporation that is doing God's work and where I believe I would be well placed to do the work of God. I would be a fool not to stay."
[ 2016.04.05 03:52:38 ] Garion Avarr > Thank you.
[ 2016.04.05 03:53:05 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote smiles. "I need to take my leave, but feel free to stay. if you need a shelf added, mail me your preferences"
[ 2016.04.05 03:53:50 ] Aria Jenneth > *beams a little*
[ 2016.04.05 03:53:51 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote rises and curtseys. "Good night Aria". Her gaze flickers over the Slaver hound.
[ 2016.04.05 03:54:17 ] Garion Avarr > /emote rises and gives a formal bow.
[ 2016.04.05 03:54:45 ] Aria Jenneth > Good night, Directrix. *Meogoleh lifts his narrow head, which has been dribbling on the floor, and gives Luna an impassive stare*
[ 2016.04.05 03:54:56 ] Lunarisse Aspenstar > /emote exits to her quarters.
